“The princess will marry anyone who has seen her face a hundred times,” it was proclaimed.
But Princess Alicia was timid and wouldn’t meet anybody when princes and nobles came.

The king was distraught and told the queen, “She will never marry if things go on like this!”

But a soldier had come to the city. He was on his way home to his widowed mother.

He had seen Princess Alicia sitting at the palace window and fallen in love with her. He decided that he would have to find some way to win the princess’s hand.

That day, he bought a new coat. The shopkeeper returned some coins that had the princess’ face on them!

The soldier got a hundred coins from the market and went to the palace.

“I have seen the princess’ face a hundred times!” he announced.

The king happily gave the princess’s hand to the clever soldier!
